Labour councillors took a nose bashing at the polls on Thursday but still came away with the seats needed to keep them in power. Out of 69 council seats, Labour held 48, the Conservative Party increased their total by one to 17 and Liberal Democrats, also by one, to four. However, in the previous council election, when there were 25 wards and 71 councillors, Labour had 52 seats, Tories, 16, and Lib Dems, just three. This means Labour returns to power in Ealing Town Hall, after 32 per cent of the eligible electorate voted - almost matching the surprisingly high 33 per cent turnout throughout the country.
