AN Ealing Civic Society plaque to commemorate mathematician and computer pioneer Ada Lovelace was installed last week.
It can be seen on the west side of the building occupied and owned by Grimshaw estate agents, at the junction of Fordhook Avenue and the Uxbridge Road.
Ada lived at Fordhook in 1835, in a house near the junction of Byron Road and Fordhook Avenue, when she was a young woman.
She became interested in maths and calculation and developed a methodical way of working at an early age.

She encountered Charles Babbage’s work on analytical engines and together they worked on patterns in networks, leading to the first concepts of computer science.
South Acton Ward Forum paid for the work.
Ealing Civic Society was set up in 1967 when many founding members were closely involved with residents’ associations in opposing the council’s radical plans to re-develop the centre of Ealing. It is not connected to any political party.
