A NEW sports and leisure complex is planned by Hillingdon Council for the Yiewsley and West Drayton area.

It will be built near the junction of Harmondsworth Road and Rowlheys Place, West Drayton and will include an eight-lane 25-metre swimming pool, a leisure pool with play features, a sports hall big enough for four marked courts, a climbing wall and soft play area.

There will also be a gymnasium, exercise studios, a health suite and cafe. Even the roof is to be put to creative use with an outdoor sports pitch.

There are also plans for a potential new community space for group activities at the Otterfield Road site, Yiewsley.

Cllr Ray Puddifoot, the council leader, said: “Our residents have told they’d like to see new facilities for young people and improved leisure facilities for people of all ages in the community.

“Thanks to sound financial management, the council is in a position to commit millions into providing state-of-the-art facilities, which will also significantly improve our built environment. “These will encourage healthier lifestyles, inspire community spirit and fortify civic pride in our borough.”

There are also plans for the existing library and car park at Falling Lane and High Street, Yiewsley, to be redeveloped into a new library and housing, including discounted or shared ownership homes.

There is also a proposal to redevelop the former Yiewsley Pool site, off Otterfield Road, into new housing and a community space.

Council officers will now develop more detailed proposals for the new sports and leisure complex and, subject to planning approval, work could commence in the spring or summer of next year.
