Two school expansions and investment in a doctor’s surgery is where more than £1m is going as part of a housing development of 206 homes.

Work is ongoing to build a mixture of two, three, four, and five-bedroom homes in Harper Lane, near Shenley and Radlett.

As part of Bloor Homes’ project, the developer must pay a certain amount of money to help with infrasturcutre in the area – in this case £1.26m of section 106 money is being invested.

More than £970,000 is being put into expanding a primary and secondary school - London Colney Primary School, and Beaumont Secondary School in St Albans.

£128,000 is going towards the cost of additional NHS facilities at the Red House Surgery in Radlett and/or the Gateways Surgery in Shenley.

£91,000 will help provide a new facility providing childcare and nursery services within the SA10 Children’s Centre Area in London Colney.

Bloor Homes has also launched its Brighter Communities campaign – which involves representatives from the developer working with schools and charities in the nearby community.

Richard Sarraff, managing director for Bloor Homes South Midlands, said: “When we launch a new development for us it is about much more than simply building houses.

“We are delighted to be launching our Brighter Communities campaign, under which we will invest in supporting all essential local amenities from education and healthcare to transport and leisure facilities.”

“During the planning process we work very closely with communities to ensure our developments are closely aligned with their local need.

“We look forward to strengthening these relationships as we work to build a brighter community for current and future generations.”

Drivers will have already noticed some changes in Harper Lane as a result of the 206-home development. A new roundabout has been created halfway down the road.

Meanwhile, as part of the development, traffic lights are being installed at the junction of Harper Lane and Watling Street, and the narrow bridge at the end of Harper Lane is becoming single file.

However, after just a week, the scheme was put on hold because the roadworks were causing major tailbacks in and out of Radlett.
