People in Brent could benefit from a series of artistic grants as part of the 2020 borough of culture celebrations.

Brent Council announced that a £500,000 fund has been set up to promote cultural activities and projects in the region.

Individuals can apply for grants worth £3,000, while organisations can bid for contributions up to £10,000.

The council explained that applications can be for any art from and are not limited by size.

Lois Stonock, artistic director of London Borough of Culture 2020, said: “The 2020 culture fund is an opportunity for Brent to be ambitious and will help to fill the 2020 programme with a range of diverse and high-quality events and projects.

“We are keen to see partnerships across the borough and would also encourage London-wide organisations to apply in collaboration with grassroots community-based organisations to do something spectacular over 2020.”

The fund will be officially launched at The Yellow in Wembley on Thursday, and the council is running a series of free workshops throughout the application period about how to get involved with the fund.

Cllr Krupesh Hirani, responsible for public health, culture and leisure at Brent Council, described it as a “fantastic opportunity” for creatives in the borough.

The culture fund will run three rounds of applications – the deadline for the first is March 18.
