A HAREFIELD man was arrested four years after failing to attend court on a fly tipping charge.

Sean Liam Smith, 32, of St Anne’s Road, was convicted after entering a guilty plea at High Wycombe Magistrates Court for the offence of dumping waste illegally at Alderbourne Lane, Fulmer, near Gerrards Cross.

Four years ago, a lorry load of mixed materials from building work was dumped there.  It was traced to an address in Pinner that was being refurbished.

The landlord used the services of Smith’s company, A-2-Z Tree and Garden Services, to carry the waste away.

Smith was summoned to appear in court on a charge of illegal dumping but failed to attend.

When he did finally appear in court, Smith said he had never received the court papers in 2014.

The case was treated as a first hearing and Smith was given credit for making an early guilty plea.

He was fined £769 and ordered to pay £1,392 prosecution costs.  A victim surcharge of £76 was added to this, making a total to pay of £2,237.

Luisa Sullivan, speaking for the Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire, said: "We will always prosecute fly tippers where possible.

"Though this man managed to escape justice for quite some time, his crime caught up with him, leaving him with a criminal record and a considerable sum to pay."
