A Sutton resident has celebrated her 100th birthday with five generations of her family as she reached the centenary milestone.

Eleanor Hills, who has lived in the same house for 80 years, became a centenarian this past weekend on Saturday, November 17.

Lots of her family members who visited from different parts of the country – such as Bath, East Sussex, Southampton, and Yorkshire – and came down to celebrate with her.

There were decorations all around the house as she cut the cake for her birthday.

Mrs Hills’ daughter Marion Boatfield, who is 79 now, said: “There were balloons and banners all over the place, which my brother had done. Because we all live in different parts of the country, we all had a really good get-together.

“Her great granddaughter came from Bath, her great great granddaughter came from Southampton, her granddaughters came as well - one from east Sussex and one from Yorkshire - and I came from Bexhill-on-Sea.

“She's completely got all her faculties, she's brighter than half of us!”

Mrs Hills, who was one of nine, had two children and gave birth to her daughter just weeks into the Second World War in 1939.

It was during the conflict which would last until 1945 that she worked in an ammunitions factory in Morden.

Marion added: “I don't really remember all that much about it, the only thing I really remember is going down the shelters and having sugared almonds.

“We had a good childhood, we were always well-fed and well-clothed.

“My father worked hard so we didn't really want for anything. We weren't wealthy or anything, we weren't particularly well-off, but we were certainly well-clothed and well-fed.”

She would marry her husband Gordon before he later died in 2004 at the age of 87.

Mrs Hills has two grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and six great-great-great grandchildren.
