A teenager has returned glorious from the Artistic Roller Skating Cup of Europe.

This year held in Fuengirola, Spain, the continent wide championship pitted hundreds of dancers against one another in a number of categories and age groups.

Part of the GB contingent was the Waltham Abbey Artistic Roller Skating Club, which sent two performers.

Charlotte Jaggs, an 11 year-old from Harlow, laid down a strong march and waltz, scoring her an 11th place finish.

Zachary Wooton, who travels all the way from Lewisham to the Essex town to train, finished even higher.

Gemma Davis, who splits her time between coaching roller dancing and running baby sensory class, said: "Zach came second in his category doing a tango and foxtrot to Puss in Boots.

"They both did absolutely brilliantly."

According to Ms Davis, roller dancing is like its ice counterpart, but on wheels.

The 34 year-old added: "It is exactly like ice skating. It is exactly the same as what Torvill and Dean did.

"We are hoping to get roller games into the olympics one day.

"We have people coming from near Wales.

"Our club is quite prestigious and we have been going for nearly 20 years now."

Those interested in roller dancing can contact Ms Davis on 07917 411232 or join a session at Waltham Abbey Leisure Centre at 10.30am on Saturdays.

Skates are required and entry is £6.
