WRESTLING legend Kendo Nagasaki will be at the Beck Theatre, Hayes, on Monday, October 22, to launch his autobiography, Kendo Nagasaki and the Man Behind the Mask.

It is part of a bid to raise £1m for the Lee Rigby Foundation.
Anyone who watched World of Sport in the 70s will remember Big Daddy, Mick McManus, Giant Haystacks and, of course, Kendo Nagasaki.

Apparently possessed of Samurai skills and a mysterious past, Nagasaki wore a full-face mask, cape and sword, combined with an uncompromising and ruthless fighting style which cast him as the baddie of Saturday afternoon TV.

In contrast to his sporting persona, Peter Thornley, the man behind Kendo’s mask, is a Zen Buddhist who until now has strenuously avoided the spotlight.

However, his autobiography reveals a man who has been a successful entrepreneur in the music business, a hotel and nightclub owner, an advocate of the Gay Pride movement, a country gent and philanthropist.

To launch the book, Kendo will go back into the ring at the Beck from 7pm.

All proceeds from the sale of the book will go to the Lee Rigby Foundation, established in memory of the soldier murdered in South London during 2015.

Tickets: £15 adults, £10 children, £45 family, including two adults and two children, are on sale at the Beck box office, 01474-337459.
