THE Red Lion, a Fuller’s pub in St Mary’s Road, Ealing, has been sold to Edin Basic, co-founder of restaurant group Firezza, which was acquired by Pizza Express in 2016.

Previous owners Pasquale Chionchio and Angelo Ambrosio also own and operate the neighbouring business, Santa Maria, a Neapolitan pizzeria. They bought the Red Lion a few years ago to expand their operations.

Edin Basic plans to focus on increasing the traditional pub trade and will partner with Pasqaule and Angelo, who will continue to provide food for the pub.

Mr Basic said: “I’m going to keep serving pizzas because people love it – and I know a thing or two about pizzas!

“I want to keep the traditional aspect of the pub with a slow refurbishment so that it has more original features.

"I hope to keep the original pub feeling but with a different service style and a classic look, with staff in white shirts and ties serving cocktails, wine by the glass and craft beers.

“We will introduce acoustic jazz performances for singers and songwriters every week starting November 17. We will also remain open until 1am on Thursday to Saturday.”

Stewart Harkness, of Christie & Co, which handled the sale, said: “Edin will be able to increase the popularity of this great venue on the edge of the town centre.”

The leasehold of the Red Lion was sold for £200,000.
