Hundreds of visitors took part in a hospital open day to mark the 70 years the NHS has been running.
On July 7, community members enjoyed a variety of entertainments at Northwick Park Hospital’s annual Open Day which fell shortly after the NHS’s 70th birthday on July 5.
In soaring 30-degree heat, visitors were given to performances by Indian Dhol drummers Beatology, the Irish Dance Academy and the Steel Pan Academy, while a large inflatable bowel gave some unusual shelter from the sun.
There was free health checks and information available among the 70 stalls, the London Ambulance Service made an appearance alongside members of the Army and emergency planning officer, Colin McDonnell, set up a “decontamination tent” and braved the hot weather in a Hazmat suit.
An NHS70 cake competition saw the winning entry submitted by pharmacist, Iram Husain. Other entries included a skeletal hand from radiography and a “real eyeful of a cake” from ophthalmology.
Harrier hawks, Thor and Zeus, kept a bird’s eye on things while guests were given guided tours of an operating theatre, the dental education centre, the radiology and endoscopy units.
