People across the social divide will be helping the community over the summer.
Run by The Challenge, the National Citizen’s Service is encouraging people of different ethnicities, sexualities or class backgrounds to work together.
They will spend four weeks cooking, public speaking among other activities to promote social integration.
Dominic May the performance and operations director for The Challenge, said that people tend to mix with people of a similar education, age and ethnicity. This means people rarely mix out of their own groups.
Mr May said: “These young people will take on new challenges together this summer, new adventures and will give back to their community through social action projects.
“This is a unique experience, giving young people a new and better perception of so-called ‘differences’, which in turn leads to a more integrated society.”
