PUPILS with special educational needs from Christ the Saviour Primary School in The Grove, Ealing, won gold medals at the Copper Box Arena at the Olympic Park.

A total of 21 schools took part in the Panathlon London Primary Final. The competition was split into three groups with winners crowned in each and the overall champions revealed once all scores had been compared.

Hilary Nicholl, teaching assistant, said: "It’s lovely for our children to have their moment in the sunshine.

“The reality is they’re much less likely to get chosen for the main school teams so something like this might be their only opportunity.”

Panathlon is a national charity that gives more than 15,000 disabled children every year the chance to engage in competitive sport.
