A CELEBRATION to mark the official opening of its new building was held at St John’s Primary School in Green Man Gardens, West Ealing.

The building allows for the permanent expansion of the school to accommodate three-form entry.

Visitors enjoyed drumming, drama and dance performances by the pupils and the première of a celebration dance film featuring staff and pupils, directed by award-winning film-maker Jevan Chowdhury and choreographed by London Olympics choreographer Jeanefer Jean-Charles.

In attendance were the Mayor, Cllr Tejinder Singh Dhami, Cllr Yvonne Johnson, Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services, and author and educationalist Pie Corbett.

Mr Corbett said: “St John’s is a place of joyful learning. I have visited many school buildings around the country – this is probably the best.”

Head teacher Marilyn Borlase said: “This has been a very special year for St John’s.

“We have moved into an outstanding Conran-designed building full of light and space. We have been commended for being in the top 2% in the country for pupil progress.

“Now, in our new building, we literally face a different direction towards the wider community and can focus on building on our successes.”
