An 80-year-old woman has become the longest serving member of staff for a Top 100 accountancy firm.

Susan Wohlmuth, who has just celebrated her 80th birthday with colleagues from RDP Newmans in Harrow, joined the accountancy firm in 1979.

She has worked at the company as a secretary for almost 40 years.

The grandmother-of-three, who now works three-days-a-week, can still be found answering calls, greeting clients and assisting in other administrative tasks.

Looking back on her career, Susan said: “I thoroughly enjoy working for RDP Newmans, because no two days are the same.

“Clients come and go, staff have joined and left and it has been very interesting knowing so many different cultures.

“I thoroughly enjoy working with all my colleagues and was completely surprised when they sprung the party on me.”

Susan said if she did not work for RDP Newmans she would be bored at home and would have to do some volunteer work to keep her brain “ticking over”.

Susan saw a job advert for RDP Newmans in the Kilburn Times in 1979. She had recently been made redundant.

The firm’s original office was just five minutes from home – she joined as a shorthand secretary and retrained as an audio typist.

Partner at RDP Newmans, Paresh Radia, said: “Everybody at RDP Newmans loves Susan, she is a testament to hard work and dedication and always brightens up the room.

“Most people would have retired by the time they are 80, but we feel very fortunate that Susan has decided to stick around and continue to support us.”

In her spare time, Susan enjoys spending time with her husband. She has two daughters, three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
