BATMAN and Robin, Wonder Woman and the Smurfs are some of the fancy dress costumes being worn in a spinathon event at Gurnell Leisure Centre, Greenford, to raise funds for Cancer Research.

Sean Carey, fitness instructor who is organising the event, said: “I have family that have suffered with cancer, so my fund-raising is in tribute to my mother Peggy who I sadly lost two years ago after a five-year fight with it.

“My dad had prostate cancer and thank God (and all the good work the NHS did) he beat it. He's still here with me today, and for this I'm eternally grateful.”

A friend added: “Peggy loved dancing and would be thrilled to know that the spin-athon is raising money for Cancer Research.”

The event is taking place at Gurnell this Friday (27) at 7.30pm with 34 taking part, at Golds gym on Saturday, June 2, 4.30pm (25/26 people) and Tribeca in July (36 people).
