An organisation for better parenting and support held a tribute evening to mothers across the capital with its first ever fundraiser for Mothering Sunday.

The award ceremony held by Brilliant Parents at the Royal Lounge Banqueting Suite in Wembley on March 11, saw two Harrow women win prizes across two categories.

Miss Eki Ogbeide received the Mother of the Year award, and Mrs Mavis White, won the Grandmother of the Year award.

The evening, hosted by Magic FM presenter, Angie Greaves, was sponsored by SheaMoisture and acknowledged mothers across north west London who were nominated by their families.

Reverend Rose Hudson-Wilkin, the 79th chaplain to the Speaker of the House of Commons delivered a keynote speech to the packed hall at the Royal Lounge, and later, people were asked if they felt parenting classes should be as readily available as antenatal ones.

An overwhelming majority were in favour.

Brilliant Parents intend to use this data for a parliamentary debate.

Chief executive of Brilliant Parents, Meave Darroux, said: “More and more parents are overwhelmed by changes in parenting guidance as children today have all the rights but very little of the responsibility.

“We want to have a national conversation that helps parents through this to achieve better outcomes for the parents and family.”
