A NEW political party formed by Polish Prince John Zylinski today confirmed it is fielding 48 candidates across 16 boroughs in London for the council elections on May 3.

Prince Zylinski said voters were already welcoming his party’s fresh approach, combined with a call to promote dignity and respect for all minorities in the wake of Brexit.

He said: "Our people are being well-received on doorsteps by English and Polish voters alike.

“They also welcome our campaigning on real issues that affect real people, such as the need for proper rubbish collections and more police on the streets.

"Voters are telling us they are tired of empty promises from Westminster, and they want something different. What we are seeing here is the birth of practical politics at a local level.

"Our candidates are of Polish heritage, but they are also Londoners who love the British way of life. We want a safe and clean city for everybody."

The new party, called Duma Polska: Polish Pride, has been registered with the Electoral Commission.

EU citizens who are resident in the UK are entitled to vote on May 3. While Polish Pride is appealing to voters from all backgrounds, the large number of EU settlers makes the party a significant force at a local level.

Candidates are drawn from a range of backgrounds, including prominent businessmen and women, teachers and tradesmen.

There are 17 candidates standing for Ealing Council, plus others in Hillingdon, Brent, Waltham Forest, Haringey, Lewisham, Merton, Wandsworth, Lambeth, Broxbourne, Greenwich, Croydon, Enfield, Hackney and Barnet.

The candidates in Ealing are standing in Perivale, Dormers Wells, Hanger Hill, Greenford Green, Hobbayne, Northolt West End and South Acton.

Three candidates in Hillingdon are standing in Botwell and West Drayton.
