A coffee shop has joined a country-wide project to combat loneliness and bring people together over a nice cuppa.

Carpentier & Co in Pinner joined the national Chatty Café Scheme on April 2 when the owner, Harriet Carpentier was contacted by Conservative Cllr for Pinner, Norman Stevenson.

The scheme, called “Chatter & Natter” aims to create a space for people to talk, even just for a few minutes, and build new friendships and relationships over a brew.

The Chatty Café Scheme say just a simple interaction to combat loneliness may have a big impact on someone’s day.

Cafes who take part will designate a “chatty table” to encourage customers to talk to one another.

Harriet said: “It’s a wonderful idea and builds on our supporting the local village community here in Pinner.

“We will put a notice on our ‘chatty table’ during quiet times.”

Cllr Norman Stevenson said he was “very pleased” Harriet had joined the scheme, adding: "This is the first business in our borough to do this. It's a wonderful idea to benefit everyone, in particular those who are lonely.

“Harriet is a great supporter of our community here in Pinner and runs a popular local business”.

Carpentier & Co will start holding “chatty tables” during quieter periods on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
