A charity which helps people with disabilities adapt their home life has received a donation from a foundation for 12 people with long term illnesses.

Independence at Home in Harrow received £1000 from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation in February this year.

The donation will mean the charity can make grants to service users for equipment including home adaptations and other essential items.

The £1000 will be share among 12 services users. Independence at Home in Harrow applies for funding with a costed list of needs.

Steve English, manager of Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation’s Harrow branch, said: “It’s amazing to know that this donation will really help to transform the lives of 12 people. Our members’ small change will really make a big difference to those people.”

Independence at Home’s fundraising executive, Rina Rawal, said the charity were ‘very grateful’ for the donation, adding: “Generous support from donors…helps us to continue improving quality of life in and around the home for vulnerable people of all ages.”

Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is funded through the Small Change Big Difference scheme, which campaigns to make food go further in London.
