ACTON Park is the setting for a new children’s book by an author who grew up in the area.

Sue Fabian has since moved to Sussex and wrote Speagle Goes To Dog School with her granddaughter, Skye. Sue worked across theatre and the arts, fashion and beauty and is now semi-retired.

In the story the main character, Speagle, escapes and gets locked in a park, which is actally Acton Park. The book refers to features of the park such as ‘the man in the tree’.

Speagle is a cross between a spaniel and a beagle (hence her name) and is seven-year-old Pearl's best friend. She is a very naughty dog and, after causing havoc in the park, Pearl decides her pet must go to dog school and learn to behave.

Speagle does behave, but only at dog school, so a rather more stern lesson is needed.

When she runs away in the park, leaving Pearl behind, she gets locked in for the night and finds herself lost among the woodland creatures.
With the help of the old man of the tree, Speagle learns the lessons she won't learn at Dog School.

Published by Olympia, the paperback costs £5.99 and will be available from March 29.
