AN outreach programme, set up by a national children’s charity to support young, disadvantaged girls in Hillingdon, has received a £47,286 grant from Heathrow Community Fund.

The project, run by the Youth Sport Trust, will give girls from 12 secondary schools across the borough the chance to be part of a two-year project supporting girls’ personal development, raising their educational aspirations and supporting their health and emotional wellbeing.

The charity was awarded the donation under Heathrow’s Communities for Youth grants programme.

Gabby Shirley, development manager at Youth Sport Trust, said: “As a national children’s charity, our mission is to build a brighter future for all young people through the power of PE and sport.

“This funding will mean we can transform the lives of more than 720 girls through focusing on our Youth Sport Award and Girls Active programme over two years.

“We want to inspire these girls to be the best they can be and raise their aspirations for the future so they lead healthy and happy lives. This grant will enable us to really make a difference.”

In the past two years, Heathrow Community Fund has donated more than £1m. The funds come from an annual donation from the airport, fines imposed on aircraft that breach noise limits, Heathrow airport employees and John Lewis.

The fund also supports and encourages Heathrow staff to volunteer and support the communities where they live.
