THIS Friday (24) is Carers Rights Day, and businessman Paul Sahota is pledging his support for carers in Hillingdon to receive better advice and support in what can be hugely confusing circumstances.

The Carers UK campaign calls for the Government to:

  • Stop cutting carers’ support. Carers, it says, need more help, not less – yet families face cuts to services and benefits
  • End carers’ financial hardship. Caring, it maintains, should not push families into financial crisis. It wants urgent reform of carers’ benefits
  • Prevent carer breakdown. Health and care services must act to prevent carer ill-health and isolation.

Mr Sahota has witnessed at first hand the complexity and difficulty carers face, which is why he decided to set up his own business, Home Instead Senior Care, offering in-home support for elderly people in the Slough and Uxbridge area.

His team provides respite for family carers in need of a break due to the stress of not only looking after a loved-one 24/7 but also worrying about the financial burden.

He said “The importance of serving the community has been with me from a very young age, when my father first served as a councillor in his local borough.

“Close family members and friends also went on to serve their communities, so I feel it is my duty to campaign on behalf of people who may not have the voice to make a change on their own.

“Care in this country has been hugely overlooked and, as a result, people are struggling.

"This is not the type of community in which we ought to live, so I am using my voice and the voice of Home Instead Senior Care to speak out.”
