A programme designed for people to gain a better understanding of each other’s faiths and cultures is being launched.

Harrow Interfaith Week will see a number of buildings across the borough open their doors to the whole community.

The aim is for people to learn more about the diverse culture of Harrow and to discover the good work carried out by faith centres.

Varsha Parmar, responsible for equality at Harrow Council, said: “Wouldn’t life be boring if we were all the same? I certainly think so and that’s why I love learning about different cultures, traditions and religions.

“If there’s one thing Harrow should be most proud of it’s our diversity and Interfaith Week reminds us it is something to celebrate.”

Varsha Dodhia, Harrow Interfaith chairman, added that the week is a perfect example of the hard work carried out by people devoted to promoting better links between all community groups.

She said: “Building good relationships and working partnerships between people of different faiths and beliefs or no beliefs is part of the year-round work of many people and organisations across Harrow.

“Bridges do not fall from sky, people build them. Interfaith Week is a time for us to focus on interfaith understanding and cooperation.”
