A week-long event brought in more than £2,000 for charity and showed the importance of supporting community projects.

The Community Matters Week, which highlights the great work done by charities in and around Harrow, was hosted by IT service provider Sopra Steria.

It raised a whopping £2,340, including a generous donation by the organisers, which will be split between the Mayor of Harrow’s Charities – Harrow Women Centre and Harrow Law Centre – and MacMillan Cancer Support.

Cllr Margaret Davine, Mayor of Harrow, said: “Raising money for charities helps people who are in need of support and everyone should be proud of being part of this project and the positive impact it will have on the community.

“It’s been a fantastic week and we’ve all had great fun, thank you Sopra Steria.

“Community Matters Week is a great opportunity to say a big thank you as despite the huge pressures local charities face that doesn’t stop volunteers from working hard and looking after some of our most vulnerable people in the borough.”

The week gave people the chance to take part in a number of events, including a marathon challenge, bake off, head shave and a ‘wear it PINK’ day.

Steve Mulcahy, client director at Sopra Steria, said he was already looking forward to next year’s event and expressed his delight at being involved in such a worthwhile project.

He said: “It’s been a fantastic week at Harrow where both Sopra Steria and Harrow Council employees have demonstrated their belief in social value and have come together for the good of the community.

“I’m thrilled by the level of participation and support by everyone involved including the Mayor and Mayoress of Harrow who were fantastic in their involvement.

“Best of all, and on top of the enjoyment we’ve experienced, we raised a large amount of money for the Mayor’s Charities and MacMillan Cancer Support. We’re all super proud and can’t wait until the next year’s events.”
