A deli that showed a careless attitude towards waste disposal has been slapped with a hefty fine after refusing to clean up its act.

Miesko Polish Deli, in Sudbury, was forced to pay more than £1,500 after it ignored Harrow Council’s demands to dispose of its rubbish properly.

The shop regularly left loose rotting meat, bin bags and packaging strewn in its backyard and car park.

This mess was reported by neighbours and prompted a visit from the council's enforcement officers.

They issued a warning to the deli, instructing it to clear up the mess and behave in a more responsible fashion.

However, the owners failed to address the issue and, as a result, the director, Jolanta Wrobel, was served a fixed penalty notice of £100.

Not only did Wrobel fail to pay the fine, the deli continued to empty its waste poorly and was ultimately charged £1,530.66 at Willesden Magistrates Court for its efforts, or lack of.

Cllr Graham Henson, cabinet member for the environment at Harrow Council, said: “Wrobel’s irresponsible and disgusting behaviour not only caused misery for others, but made the area a dirty place – and that is completely unacceptable.

“She thought she could defy our warnings, and now has a lot to pay.

“Everyone is responsible for their own waste – whether you’re a business or resident.

“We’ll do the same with anyone else not managing waste properly or are caught undoing our work to make Harrow clean.”
