A group of breast cancer survivors are gearing up to take part in a charity fashion show to demonstrate that there is life after the disease.

The event, which takes place at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel, London, on September 28, will raise money for Breast Cancer Care.

One model from Harrow, Pam Underwood, 54, explained how the show will highlight the way in which people can still look at feel amazing after treatment.

“I was shocked when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2013, shortly after my 50th birthday,” the HR manager said.

“After surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, I struggled to return to normal. But with the help of my friends and family and Breast Cancer Care, I managed to put my life back together.

“I’m so excited to take part in the show and I can’t wait to step onto the catwalk in front of my friends and family and show everyone that a breast cancer diagnosis won’t stop me feeling dressed in positivity.”

Another 30 people will join Pam on the runway as they are transformed from head-to-toe by a team of experienced hair and make-up artists.

The outfits they are wearing have been professionally styled by fashion journalist, director and stylist Hilary Alexander OBE.

Breast Cancer Care aims to raise more than £400,000 from the event, which will enable it to continue to provide care, support and information to anyone affected by breast cancer.

Samia al Qadhi, Chief Executive of Breast Cancer Care, noted how this year marks the 25 anniversary of the pink ribbon, the universal sign for combating breast cancer and a “powerful symbol for millions”.

She added that the fashion show will enable participants to rediscover their pride and confidence in a wonderful setting.

“We are all so excited to see our models star in the show. Taking to the catwalk is a once in a lifetime opportunity for them,” she said.

“When you are told that you have breast cancer, every bit of your life can change forever.

“It can shatter your self-esteem and make you feel unrecognisable when you look in the mirror.

“It can even make you feel uncomfortable in your own skin and in your clothes. Together with our generous sponsor, Comfort, we’re helping people living with breast cancer feel positive and confident in their clothes.”
