A supermarket recently offered shoppers a chance to meet the farmers who produce their food.

Morrisons Hatch End, in Uxbridge Road, hosted a group of farmers on August 10 who distributed information about British produce and spoke to customers about their farms and the produce in their region.

The session intended to show shoppers – many of whom had never met a farmer – the benefits of buying and eating homegrown food.

It was part of a campaign by farmers, Farm24 (24 hours in farming), to explain the effort that goes in to producing food that goes on our tables.

It coincided with one of the biggest weeks of fresh produce sales as foods such as lamb, soft fruits and summer vegetables reached the peak of their seasonality.

Moshin Khan, Store Manager at Morrisons Hatch End, said: “We believe that by meeting our real farmers, customers will understand that we are supporting real local businesses and understand more about where their food comes from.

“Our farmers got the chance to meet the Morrisons customers they are feeding and explain the importance of eating homegrown food.”

As well as the event at Morrisons and other supermarkets, faming advocates sought to shine a light on their work for a whole day by flooding social media and other channels.
