A man who drunkenly stabbed his friend in the throat has been jailed for more than four years.

Toader-Marius Morosan, 38, of Marsh Lane, Stanmore, was sentenced to four years and four months in prison for GBH after stabbing a 53-year-old in Constable Gardens, Edgware.

The court heard Morosan visited relatives on May 27 when drunk, and demanded money from the victim.

Later in the day at around 5.30pm, Morosan entered the kitchen, picked up a knife and stabbed him in the throat.

A witness in the kitchen grabbed Morosan to prevent a more serious injury as he lunged at the victim, after which Morosan fled and was later arrested at his home.

DC Amin Kohzadbayat, the officer in the case for Barnet Police, said: "Morosan's violent tendencies were brought out by his alcohol consumption.

"On this occasion, the victim is lucky to be alive as the knife penetrated his Adam's apple, and was only stopped as a witness intervened."

The victim received stitches and was taken to hospital, but has since recovered from his injuries.

The court also heard that when interviewed, Morosan tried to portray the attack as a joke that went too far

Morosan was was charged on May 30, appeared at Harrow Crown Court on June 30 before his sentencing on July 20.
