UKIP candidate chosen

THE UK Independence Party has chosen Indian-born physician Dr Kunnathur Rajan to challenge for the Southall by-election.

Dr Rajan, who moved to the UK in 1960, visited Ealing Broadway on Tuesday to launch his campaign.

He said: "I shall be fighting my campaign on policies which will improve the lives for people in this constituency, including an end to mass uncontrolled immigration, strong policies on law and order and for a referendum on the new proposed EU treaty.

"I am very much looking forward to the election where I shall be fighting all out for a UKIP victory."

Dr Rajan, who worked in the NHS for 28 years, is being backed by UKIP MEP Gerard Batten.

"I am delighted that Dr Rajan has decided to stand," said Mr Batten. "He is a fantastic candidate who is not afraid to stand up for what he believes in.

"He is a hard-working man who would be an asset to the people of Ealing and Southall."

Dr Rajan will compete against rival candidates Conservative Tony Lit and Liberal Democrat Nigel Bakhai. The Labour candidate will be decided later this week before the by-election on July 19.
