Fraudsters could be using tiny pin-prick cameras to steal your bank details when you're using a cash machine.

The latest warning comes after police discovered a mini camera embedded in the plastic of a cash machine.

This latest trick shows just how technologically advanced the people who are out to steal your bank details are becoming.

Investigations into cashpoint tampering discovered the holes meant a mini recording device, which is hidden inside a false cover to the cash dispensing slot, could record the victim putting in their pin number.

Authorities are now warning people to be wary when getting money out, and to always cover the keypad when entering numerical details.

One device was uncovered at a cashpoint in central London last month - but fears are that they could be being used around the UK.

Watford Observer:

PC Matt Clarke, from the City of London Police, who are the national lead force for fraud policing said: "If you spot anything unusual about a cash machine, or if there are signs of tampering, don’t use it. If in doubt, try and use a machine inside a branch.

“The vast majority or cashpoints are perfectly safe – but criminals have been known to tamper with them.

"We work closely with banks, building societies, and other cash machine vendors, to make sure this type of crime doesn’t happen.”
