A man has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for manslaughter following the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Che Labastide-Wellington in Kenton last year.

The Old Bailey heard how Che, who was from Harrow, had attended a birthday party in Belvedere Way on November 8, 2015, when an altercation took place outside the address, after a group of men were not allowed inside the party. Che was not involved in this fight.

At around 12.30am, Che and his friend were leaving the party when they became aware of a large group of young men approaching the party and one of the group said something to them.

Eager to get away from the hostile group, the pair ran off. They were pursued by the large group of males; at this point Che and his friend were attacked, beaten and stabbed.

Police, the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance attended following the stabbings and despite the best efforts of paramedics Che died at the scene of the attack at 1.29am.

A post-mortem examination held on November 9, 2015, at Northwick Park Hospital gave the cause of death as a stab wound to the heart.

Che's teenage friend also suffered stab injuries during the incident and was taken to a north London hospital for treatment to his injuries before being discharged.
