A man has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a student who had only moved to the UK four days before.

Yathukulan Paskaramoorthy, 33, of Berkley Road, in Kingsbury near Colindale, appeared at Southwark crown court yesterday (October 26).

Around 1.30am on Saturday, September 17, the victim - a 19-year-old woman who had only been in the UK for four days - left Tiger Tiger in Haymarket alone via a fire door she mistook for an exit.

She ended up in a neighbouring communal building where Paskaramoorthy, who followed her out of the club, pushed her to the floor and sexually assaulted her.

The woman fought back and shouted there was a camera watching, which startled Paskaramoorthy into stopping and running out of the building.

After emailing Tiger Tiger about the attack, the club contacted the police who interviewed the woman and reviewed CCTV footage.

Paskaramoorthy was identified and arrested thanks to ID information obtained by the club as he gained entry on the night of the attack.

The woman, who remains anonymous, said: “I had only been in London for four days at the time and I didn't want to tell my parents as I felt it would affect them psychologically and they would want me to come home straight away.

“I didn't want to worry them so I just went to my roommate and cried because I had to get it off my chest.

“I hate that it happened, but I fought the guy off and I was glad I did because I do not want him to do worse to someone else.

“I'm very apprehensive about going out with university friends now, and I do not.”

There had been no interaction between the attacker and the victim before the attack.

Detective Constable Ben Lucas said: “This was a nasty attack on a vulnerable young woman that has left her very distressed and fearful to go out with friends.

“I would like to praise her for her courage in coming to us and helping us to bring Paskaramoorthy to justice.

“I would also like to thank the staff at Tiger Tiger for all their help with the investigation, including helping us to identify Paskaramoorthy so quickly.”

Paskaramoorthy will return to Southwark crown court to be sentenced on Wednesday, November 23.
