A woman diagnosed with a serious health condition is encouraging disabled people to take up the challenge and get active.

Fitness instructor Kelly-Jo Phillips, 40, from Morley Crescent in Edgware, was diagnosed with the condition of fibromyalgia which causes all over body pain, fatigue and brain fog.

Whilst working for the Metropolitan Police for more than nine and half years as a communications officer, her condition deteriorate and she was unable to continue in her job.

Her passion for fitness was ignited after attending pain management programmes that led to her participating in aqua classes and gym sessions and her love of exercise has continued, she now attends several aqua classes a week.

As someone who lives with a health condition she understands some of the concerns people have about going to the gym but is adamant that everyone can enjoy the benefits of exercise.

She said: "I love exercise, people tell me how good I look and I feel a lot more confident in myself. Exercise gave me a new lease of life and now I wish to pass on my knowledge and experience to help others."

In order to share her past experiences and her new lease of life she applied to train as a gym instructor through the InstructAbility programme created by the spinal injury charity, Aspire and delivered in partnership with YMCAfit.

Now qualified she feels is even more motivated to help others to achieve their goals.
