EXOTIC Ealing is one of the most commonly misspelt London boroughs according to Travelodge.

Britons also struggle to spell Southwark, Greenwich, Maida Vale and Wimbledon.

Ask British adults to spell London, or many of its boroughs, and you will receive some head-scratching answers, such as: Landan, Lunden, Lunndan, Loodon, and for the boroughs: Suthark, Grenitch, Eeling and Sureditch.

These are just a sample of the booking location entries Travelodge receives daily from people from all corners of the UK.

Every week more than one million people visit the Travelodge website looking to book a room at one of 514 UK Travelodge hotels which includes 67 London based hotels.

Following a booking audit they revealed that 20% of location entries are misspelt — with London being the second most misspelt location.

Edinburgh took the lead with Glasgow in third place.

The report also revealed that Britons struggle to correctly spell some of the 33 London boroughs with Southwark, Greenwich, Wimbledon, Maida Vale, Poplar, Shoreditch, Islington, Hammersmith, Sidcup and Ealing being the most popular.

Home to the tallest building in the UK, Southwark rises to the top of the misspelt London boroughs list, often being spelt as Suthark and Souvark.

Location of the Millennium Dome, Greenwich is often confused as Grenitch, Greenwitch and Grenich.

Even Wimbledon, globally recognised for the world’s premier tennis tournament produces faults with Winbledone and Wimbelldone.

Specific London locations have also proved a challenge for some with the financial district, Canary Wharf, often spelt as Canarie Warf or Cannery Warf.

Home of English football, Wembley, is spelt as Wemmbly and the central London hub, Leicester Square, is often misspelt as Lester Square.
