Police in Harrow have seized a large quantity of drugs and an imitation firearm in a series of raids across the borough.

The raids come during a period of “increased gang tension” in Wealdstone in which police were shot at, according to borough commander Simon Ovens.

“On the back of this we have arrested a great number of people, and a lot of people will be going to prison for a long time,” he said.

A substantial amount of drugs, including half a kilo of cannabis at one premises, has been recovered, as Harrow police worked with officers from Trident – the Met’s central shooting team – to exercise around 20 search warrants in the last two weeks.

As well as the firearm and narcotics, evidence of other criminal activities was also found.

Mr Ovens revealed the effective raids in the wake of a raid on a Rayners Lane property, where a large amount of cannabis and cash was confiscated.
