The shop will up sticks from its current College Road location and move into the WHSmith store in St Ann’s Shopping Centre, transforming it into a new “modern, open-plan branch”.

Post Office Ltd will continue to operate the branch and provide the same range of services as before, with the exception of a cash machine. However, it still intends to provide a cash machine, subject to relevant permissions being obtained.

The final day of service at the current branch will be September 21, with the new branch opening at 9am the following day.

Roger Gale, general manager for the Post Office’s Crown branch network, said that the change would help to ensure the branch is commercially viable into the future and therefore protect Post Office services on which customers in Harrow depend.

“Our customers’ needs continue to change and we are responding to that, taking the right action to sustain our services for years to come,” he said.

“We are committed to remaining on high streets and at the heart of communities and we are making changes right across our network to enable us to do so.”

The new branch will have its own designated area within and customer access to the shop. As well as the five counters, the store branch will boast three self-service kiosks.

The plans were given the go-ahead following a six-week public consultation.
