PAEDIATRIC nurses at Hillingdon Hospital are to jump out of a plane to help buy equipment for the extended children’s ward.

Eight members of the paediatric team are bracing themselves for a once-in-a-lifetime adrenalin rush as they prepare to fall from the sky at about 120 miles an hour.

They have so far raised more than £1,750 of their £5,000 target to help kit out the new wing of the Peter Pan Ward.

Stevie Strutton, 26, a paediatric respiratory clinical nurse specialist, said: “We are excited but nervous as the date of our skydive gets closer.

“We are determined to provide the best for our patients and want to raise as much money as possible to buy equipment for our new extension with four en suite cubicles.

“The new wing also includes a teenage chill out area which we would like to kit out with a TV, stereo and games console. This will help in making the children, young people and families' stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible.

“Please support your local paediatric team as they undertake this exhilarating parachuting experience in support of the paediatric unit.”

The nurses, health care assistants and students will jump out of the sky at Hinton Skydiving Centre in Northamptonshire on September 4.

The refurbished children’s A&E department was re-opened in July with an added four bedded short stay unit.
