A pub landlord and a construction firm have been hits with fines from Hillingdon Council after local residents complained about their noisy neighbours.

John Whelan, landlord at the Six Bells in Station Road, West Drayton, ignored a council notice ordering him to keep the noise down after residents nearby got fed up with late night music.

Council officers visited the pub in August 2015 and issued the landlord with a notice for causing a statutory noise nuisance to locals.

The notice was breached twice with officers called out again in October and November last year.

Mr Whelan failed to attend a hearing at Uxbridge Court on May 17 where he was found guilty of two offences, and was hit with fines totalling £1,500, costs of £855 and victim surcharge of £75.

Hillingdon council also prosecuted a contractor working at Clearview House in Pinner Road, Northwood, for working beyond the limit of 1pm on a Saturday.

A notice was served on the contractor but the council received further complaints and in December a council officer was dispatched to the site where further violations of the restrictions were witnessed.

The contractor was prosecuted for the breach and at a hearing at Uxbridge Magistrates Court on May 17. The company entered a guilty plea and was fined £1,000, with costs of £842 and a victim surcharge of £120.

"While many of us have to live with some noise around our homes there is no need for any of us to be subject to unlawful noise from builders or pubs,” said Councillor Douglas Mills, Cabinet Member for Community, Commerce and Regeneration.

“Hillingdon Council is firm on this and invites its residents to report any such nuisance noise."
