ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY Ealing residents have earned rewards and discounts while donating more than £10,000 to borough businesses via a council-sponsored recycling scheme.

Greenredeem, an organisation which rewards recycling through points that can be spent in local businesses, have given 25 million points to Ealing residents as their recycling rates have shot up to 45 per cent.

The points can be converted into money by residents earning discounts and services from certain businesses and community projects.

Nearly 2.2 million points were generously donated by residents to local community projects, which equates to more than £10,000 in grants being made.

Rob Crumbie at Greenredeem is proud of Ealing’s efforts, he said: “We’re delighted at the success of the residents reward scheme over the last year.

“The enthusiasm of the local community to undertake green actions has been outstanding. We’re looking forward to continuing to build on this over the coming months.”

The council and Greenredeem celebrated their one-year anniversary with a celebratory breakfast at artisan coffee shop Harris and Hoole.

Represented were businesses such as the Hanwell Honeypots and London Bike Hub, two recipients of the points scheme crafted by Greenredeem.

Members of Greenredeem are rewarded a different number of points once they have reported their recycling efforts on their Greenredeem account.

If you are rewarded 75 points you will be able to receive a £5 discount on any reconditioning service at the London Bike Hub.

The scheme is highly beneficial for businesses as the points get transferred into grants for the chosen businesses.

London Bike Hub has received a grant of £700 and Hanwell Honeypots have received a grant of £1,000.

The Hanwell Honeypots grant will be used to train up bee keepers and London Bike Hub will spend their grant by supporting a long term bike club for young people.

David Eales of the London Bike Hub said: “It’s great to know we live amongst residents that place a huge focus on community and the environment.

“We’re looking forward to using the grant to give back to our supportive community, by investing the money in our bike club for young people.”

Councillor Bassam Mahfouz is delighted with the support of the 23,500 subscribers and encourages other to do so.

Other businesses you can also donate points to are Harris and Hoole, Gurnell Leisure Centre, Zayka, Cinnamon on the Lane, Hungry Yeti and Toni & Guy.

All residents in Ealing can be rewarded by going to www.Greenredeem.co.uk and earn points by posting what they have recycled.
