A MAN murdered his friend by hitting him on the head with a claw hammer multiple times in Acton.

After carrying out the attack Giuseppe Lo Medico, 55, of no fixed address, walked into Acton Police Station to report he thought his friend was dead, said police.

Lo Medico was convicted yesterday of the murder of Terrence Longman, 50, at a flat in Cumberland Park on March 24.

Officers forced entry to Mr Longman's flat at about 9.45pm after being led there by Lo Medico.

A post-mortem examination at Uxbridge Mortuary the following day gave head injury as the cause of death.

A Met Police spokesman said: "It is believed he had been struck between 12 and 13 times on the forehead with a hammer."

Lo Medico was convicted following a trial at the Old Bailey and will be sentenced next Monday, October 12.
