SOUTHALL residents are invited to a free Indian themed fun event this Sunday, August 30 at the town’s recently created public space, Southall Square.

The event celebrates the different ways the town’s new public spaces can be used and will include a free taster dance and exercise class and the screening of a Bollywood film.

Instructors will be on stage from 3pm giving visitors the chance to enjoy a free pungra class, which is similar to zumba but with bhangra music, followed by a screening of coming-of-age comedy drama Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara from 4pm.

Southall Community Alliance will also be on hand with advice on healthy living and wellbeing.

The event, which is being held in the new Southall Square outside Lidl, is supported by Ealing Council as part of the Southall Big Plan.

It is being run by W5 Productions, an independent company founded by the University of West London, in association with Southall Community Alliance.

Those who enjoy the pungra class will be able to find out how to sign up for a new pungra course running at Southall Sports Centre from September.

The classes are being subsidised by the council’s local ward forum to encourage more people to get fit and active.
