A NEW unit is opening at St David’s Home in Ealing next month, thanks to support from ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.

The Century Unit will provide eight new en-suite rooms, taking the number of places available at the Castlebar Hill home to 75.

It will officially open on Tuesday September 1.

The home, which provides care and rehabilitation for veterans, was inspected by the Care Quality Commission in December 2014, receiving an overall Good rating with an Outstanding for its effectiveness.

Father Abbot Martin Shipperlee, chair of trustees at St David’s Home, said: “We are enormously grateful to The Soldiers’ Charity.

“The grant helped provide equipment such as profile beds, pressure-relieving mattress, ceiling hoists and televisions.

“Residents will also have full access to the dining room, lounges and extensive gardens.”

St David’s was set up in 1918 by Lady Anne Kerr, the Duke of Norfolk’s daughter, after she lost her son in the First World War.

Martin Rutledge, chief executive of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, said: “Specialist facilities and equipment ensures that injured or elderly veterans can continue to live with dignity.

“We are delighted to have supported this fantastic facility which will enrich the lives of residents at St David’s Home.”

ABF The Soldiers’ Charity is the national charity of the British Army, and supports soldiers, veterans and their immediate families through grants to individuals and other specialist charities.
