LIBRARIES across Ealing are preparing to encourage young readers to explore some of the astonishing real-life achievements featured in the Guinness World Records Books as part of the Summer Reading Challenge 2015.

You can sign up to take part at any library in Ealing, but if you want to be part of a record-breaking attempt, go along to Ealing Central Library from 10am and Northolt Leisure Library from 1pm this Saturday (11).

The Challenge runs until Saturday, September 12, to see if you can read six books over the summer, with prizes to be won.

Ealing Libraries are working with storyteller John Kirk as he performs four shows; The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, Superlative Tales, Tales from 1001 Nights and The Sea Monsters.

There are lots of other events and activities taking place across Ealing libraries. For a full list, visit www.ccslibraries.com/libraries/ealing-libraries/childrens-library-services/summer-reading-challenge

The annual Summer Reading Challenge is aimed at those aged 4-11 and their families.

Children are encouraged to read six or more library books of their choice during the summer holidays with collectable incentives and rewards, plus a certificate, or medal for every child who completes the challenge.

They can sign up at their local library at the start of the summer holidays.

Every year there is a new theme, and this year the Summer Reading Challenge has teamed up with Guinness World Records to establish a Record Breakers theme.

Collecting stickers as they go, young readers will discover wonderful and wacky records from around the world in six different categories: Cool Tech, Way to Go!, The Big Stuff, Animal Magic, People Power and Action! Adventure!

Parents and carers will be able to see the difference the Summer Reading Challenge makes to their children’s reading. Last year, more than 800,000 children took part.
