MEMBERS of the UCU lecturers’ union at Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College are to strike on Thursday against the threat of compulsory redundancies.
The one-day strike will include pickets at all four campuses, at Ealing, Acton, Southall and Hammersmith.
The Government’s 24 percent cut to the adult education budget means the college is making £8m worth of cuts before the next academic year.
This will involve the loss of more than 140 posts, including a number of teachers.
While most of these have been achieved through voluntary severance, the UCU estimates there are five teaching and curriculum management posts still at risk of compulsory redundancy.
UCU members voted by 72 percent for strike action if the union did not receive a guarantee there would be no compulsory redundancies to teaching staff, which the college has been unable to provide.
