David faces triathlon challenge

EALING Times reporter David Doyle has agreed to run, swim and cycle 16 miles for a cancer charity.

Over the next four months David will train with a team made up of employees from the Net121 marketing company and Eden Fitness gym, both based at Uxbridge Road, Ealing, to complete the Michelob Ultra Triathlon.

Team Ealing will race the marathon for Ulster Cancer, one of the two cancer charities who can be supported through the event. The team had two places left in the squad and rang the Ealing Times to raise awareness of the event.

David said: "I jumped at the chance - I just hope I don't live to regret my enthusiasm. I was really keen to get involved and raise money for a cancer charity. A few people close to me have been affected by cancer and some wonderful people I know aren't alive any more because of it. The chance to get directly involved and to use the paper to raise money and awareness for this vital cause is something I'm really excited about."

The event involves a 750-metre swim, 12-mile bicycle ride and a three-mile run.

The decision was made to run for Ulster Cancer because Net121 managing director William Berry's aunt suffers from the disease.

"My aunt was recently diagnosed with cancer," he said. "Unfortunately, there isn't much I can do to help her, so I thought I would show my support by doing a triathlon for the Ulster Cancer Foundation."

The Ealing Times will cover the team's training progress over the next few months and the final place on the team is still open to anyone keen to take part.
