EVERY year, schools in the borough are invited by Ealing Music Service to host world music workshops for their pupils.

The choices this year were Bollywood Brass or Sounds Hawaiian and all of the slots were snapped up quicker than ever.

Professional musicians visited 20 schools during the last two weeks of the spring term to encourage pupils.

Andy Warn, of Sounds Roadshows, took his instruments, costumes and heaps of enthusiasm to St. Joseph’s Primary School in Hanwell.

Andy, who brought the music of Brazil to the World Music Festival last year, said “Our Hawaiian workshops are great fun for all ages, including the teachers!

“We use colourful costumes to really capture the mood of traditional Hawaiian music and introduce pupils to the background of Hawaiian traditions, culture and language.”

Ealing Music Service has been organising World Music Festival for the last 15 years.

Originally a way of introducing new and different kinds of music, it has now become a way of encouraging exciting musical activities and keeping music live in schools.

Ealing Music Service: Ealing Music Service aims to provide schools and young people in the community with quality music lessons, activities and other innovative, culturally diverse and accessible services.
