COMMUNITY-minded people in Ealing are donating 50,000 Greenredeem points to help a Greenford charity buy a new oven for cookery lessons.

Greenredeem members worked hard to recycle and take part in green activities, to earn points for Greenford Park Residents Association Hall, Queens Avenue, which is run by a small group of volunteers, who run activities from Zumba to sewing.

The donated points translated into a £250 grant towards the oven, which will provide cookery classes for children aged 2-11 with Kiddy Cook.

This is the first of ten community projects in the borough to reach its donation goal and benefit from the Greenredeem Residents Rewards scheme.

The initiative, launched in March last year, is designed to support Ealing Council’s efforts to boost recycling rates across the borough.

It rewards residents for recycling with points, which they can choose to either spend on themselves or donate to a local group. For every 200 points donated, £1 is granted by the scheme.

In total, 400,000 Greenredeem points have been donated to support borough projects since its launch.

Rob Crumbie, of Greenredeem, said: “It’s really encouraging to see a community come together to support projects in the area and improve the local environment.

"The more we can save Ealing Council through reduced landfill taxes, the more we can reinvest into the community.”
