A COMMUNITY Action Day by Ealing police last week led to several arrests for serious drug-related, violence, robbery and anti-social behaviour offences.

The day also involved officers speaking with Ealing Broadway shoppers, giving them tips on how to avoid becoming a victim of crime, particularly burglary.

More than 50 free burglary prevention devices were given out by Special Constable Joseph Gajari to concerned residents.

Shoppers were encouraged to raise concerns with Inspector Mark Hughes, who was on hand to advise and take note of issues raised.

Commander Mak Chishty, Met lead for community engagement, said: “Our challenge is to police in a way that gives our communities every confidence in the service we provide.

“We must engage with Londoners over the issues that matter to them.”

Police also visited food distribution factories, with the council, to check that food safety and hygiene rules were being followed by delivery drivers.

Several vehicles were stopped and checked, with two arrests made for immigration matters.

This was the first Community Action Day held by Ealing police in 2015, the third since October.

More are to be held in the coming months, so residents can share what they think police should be tacking in their area.

Commander Chishty said. “There are no short-term fixes to tackle crime. This isn’t something the police can do alone, but together we can make a real difference.”
