AN appeal for life-saving stem cell donations has been launched by the Everyone Active Centre, Acton, which is inviting people to attend its donation day, in support of the Anthony Nolan charity.
The stem cell recruitment drive, on Monday, February 2 from 5-8.30pm, is in support of Everyone Active colleague Chris Spencer, 49, who received a stem cell transplant after developing myelodysplastic syndrome in 2013.
A suitable transplant was found for Chris through Anthony Nolan, the world’s first bone marrow register, which works to match donors to those in need of life-changing transplants.
Chris said: “Without a steady stream of young people joining the register, other people like me may not be given a second chance at life.”
Anyone in good health, aged 16-30, can become a donor, which entails dropping into the centre, completing a short medical form and providing a saliva sample.
Everyone Active general manager Luke Charlton said: “We’re giving people the opportunity to be someone’s hero or heroine.”
